Expectancy Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of the Expectancy app. By using Expectancy, you agree to them.

The App

Expectancy estimates life expectancy from WHO life tables and adjusts that estimate using hazard ratios from published research, based on the answers you give it. It runs entirely on your own device.

Not Medical Advice

Expectancy is for information and education only. It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition, and its estimates are statistical figures for people with answers like yours, not a prediction of when you will die. The results can be wrong, and the range around every estimate is wide. Do not start, stop or change any treatment, medication or health behaviour because of the app without talking to a doctor or other qualified health professional. If you think you may have a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services.

Purchases

The estimate is free to use, forever. Paying unlocks the detail behind it. There are two ways to pay, and they unlock the same thing: a one-time, non-consumable lifetime unlock, or an auto-renewing weekly subscription that starts with a 7-day free trial for eligible new customers. A subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. On Android, purchases are processed by Google through Google Play and are subject to the Google Play Terms of Service; you can manage or cancel a subscription in Google Play under Payments and subscriptions. On iPhone and iPad, purchases are processed by Apple and are subject to the Apple Media Services Terms; you can manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple Account settings. Refunds are handled by Google or Apple, not by us.

Your Data

Your answers are stored only on your device. You are responsible for them, including exporting a copy if you want one. Erasing your data in Settings cannot be undone.

No Warranty

Expectancy is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. We work hard to make the model accurate and to cite its sources honestly, but we do not warrant that any estimate, risk figure or suggestion is accurate, complete or suitable for any purpose, or that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Serious Business Software LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Expectancy, including any decision you make based on its estimates.

Privacy

Your use of the Application is also governed by our Privacy Policy.

Changes

If these terms ever change, we’ll update this page and revise the date above.
